Interview of Performer Max Tomack by Liam F., Youth Journalist
LF: So Max how old were you when you started playing an instrument?
MT: I was three years old when I started drumming, I then moved onto guitar around the age of five. I took lessons from a college student and then moved onto the teacher that I have now.
LF: Did you have a musical role model? If yes, what was it about their music that inspired you?
MT: My role model is Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and Nirvana. He is a multi talented musician and he can play every instrument that he picks up. It would be a dream to be as big of a rock star as he is.
LF: Do you write your own songs? If yes, what is your process? Do you write the lyrics first or compose the music?
MT: Yes I have a catalog of original music, I compose the music first and then I get by with a little help from my friends on the lyrics. :-)
LF: I understand you go to ECR, do they offer a class in music? Are you in the band?
MT: Yes, they offer various music classes and I am in the jazz band. I am transferring to a performance at school for my junior and senior year however since that is where my true focus lies.
LF: Long-term career goals - is it your hope to be a professional musician? If yes, have you started looking into colleges? If yes, where do you think you want to go?
MT: I plan on attending the Berkeley College of Music in Boston as I hope to have a long career in music performance.
LF: Lucy Babcock is always giving back if not through this charity also through her cupcake business... I understand that you and your band have performed at various charities, too. What other charities have you supported? And why is it important to get involved?
MT: We support many charities including but not limited to the Relay for Life for Cancer and Autism Speaks. We have also performed for the veterans of foreign wars, the wounded warriors, also ice bucket challenge and other local nonprofit organizations. We feel it is important to give back to these charities because I have been very fortunate to been born into a family that can provide for me. There are many out there that are struggling and I like to help out. The relay for life is extremely important to me as I just lost my grandmother to pancreatic cancer, we need to find a cure for this horrible disease.
LF: Are you looking forward to your gig at Lucy's Charity Event on April 30 at the Topanga Community Club and is your set list confirmed?
MT: I am super excited for my upcoming set and for this opportunity. I have not confirmed my set time yet but I promise you that no matter what time I play - I will give it 200% percent.
Thank you for taking the time to interview me, and thank you for letting me be part of this!
